Computer Maintenance

Keeping your computer running smooth.

The following steps will explain how to get rid of any virus, malware, etc on your computer by not only being easy but FREE. People believe that they have to spend $60-$100 a year on anti-virus in order to stay protected. Not only do they spend that money, but the still get a virus. Now my steps for removing a virus aren't 100% but I bet it works for almost all cases. And if you stay on top of keeping your computer clean of junk files and do a weekly scan, your computer should have no problem lasting you many years in the future.

Backing Up Data

  1. Buy (if you don't already have one) an external device such as a flash drive or an external hard drive where you can backup all your data just in case of it getting erased. Click the links to see examples of the devices I am referring too.
  2. Once the device is installed to computer, make sure to grab all Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, etc. To do this, either copy and paste files or folders over one at a time or use the automated backup software that comes with the device. Usually external hard drives will have software that setups a day and time where it will copy all selected files from your computer.
  3. Store in safe place.
Online Back

If you don't have nor want an external hard drive, like talked about above. I can store all your information on my secure server. If you have music, videos, pictures, etc, I can back it all up on my server, which you can then access at anytime. To do so, just follow the below steps.
  1. Contact me, via email or aim and I'll be glad to help setup and store information on my server.
  2. The only program needed on your end, is TeamViewer so that I can setup the online storage. By just clicking on the link, it will start the download.
Please, back up ALL important date, before it gets lost!

Downloading/Installing Malwarebytes

The program that will scan your computer and create a listed of all infections is called Malwarebytes. By downloading and installing this, will drastically help your computer if it is infected.

  3. After clicking this option Malwarebytes will then do a scan of selected areas of the computers which most commonly get infected. The scan may take some time, be patient.
  4. When the scan completes, there will be an option to "Show results", click that to see all the infections that it found.
  5. After viewing all the files that are infected, simply click the "Remove threats" button, and your done. The program isolated all infections and then safely removed them from your system.
  6. Restart and all should be good.
Running CCleaner
  1. The best program to run every week or so is CCleaner. Every time you goto a website or do something on your computer, a log file is created in order to track what has been going on. Over the days, weeks and years of use, theses log files build up and start taking up a lot of space.
  2. Click the red link to download: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/b2e89e56d18e956c29600f8e45ae1ee9/
  3. After downloading and installing, run the program.
  4. At the bottom of the program in the middle, there is a button called "Analyze", if you wish to see all the files that have accumulated over the years, this will show you.
  5. After the program goes through the computer and finds all the garbage files just simply hit "Run Cleaner" in the bottom right.
  6. Done.
